Rally Raid UK was founded in 1999 by Paul Round as a response to his efforts entering the Paris Dakar Rally. Paul's first year proved to be a baptism by fire, being the only British entrant and very nearly the only English speaking entrant. From then on he has strived to help other Brits enter and compete in the Dakar and other rallies.
Paul and his son Mark have now competed in seven Dakar Rallies, and this year's brings a change in the sense that they are both now taking part in the assistance side of the rally; Mark as an assistance driver and Paul as a Team Manager, helping to get the six cars and nine bikes to the end of the rally.
Rally Raid UK is a non profit making project run by English speaking people for the benefit of other English speaking car and bike entrants to the desert rally scene, principally concentrating on the Dakar Rally. |
