Most of the mechanics that help keep the British competitors going start by watching from an armchair. You can take it one step further and it will cost less than a tourist seat.

But don't underestimate what is involved. On average mechanics get 2-4 hours sleep per night. You get a bucket seat in the day that you can sleep in, but while that's happening the vehicle you are in is doing 90mph, and that's not down a motorway!

The Rally Raid garage is also open 24 hours a day, it's pretty much like any other garage - the only difference is that it moves every day and happens to be in the middle of the desert.

The other thing to remember is that the hotel accomadation is rated at minus three stars. Only keen enthusiasts need apply for this once in a life time experiance, that just happens to want to repeat itself.
